Can't remember much about this day because i forgot to take lotsa notes. :P
*lost in ueno. i know i woke up early and then decided to walk to akihabara. ( which is something i should NEVER have done. this is because i tend to get lost easily. sigh.)
i whipped out my compass, loaned to me from my uncle, i braved the rain. - yes.. it was raining . damn those drizzles. it would rain for a few mins. then stop . then start again after a while.
so everyone almost everyone had an umbrella.
i chose an umbrella that was provided by the hotel. white non-transparent which could be used as a walking stick with a hook handle that i could hang on my daypack if i got tired.
well, i got lost, and was hungry . tried to find something to eat. saw a shop which had noodles. apparently they serve soba.
didnt know what to order, with my smattering little knowledge of japanese, i ordered my first meal in japanese. with help of my hand actions.
soba costed me about 250 yen. it was just noodles in soup. ( didn't know how to order it with meat. *niku* - which is one of the most used words for me when ordering food.)
then proceeded to ask for directions. after 30 mins of getting lost i managed to find the akihabara.
it was still early in the morning and the shops hadn't been opened or just partially setting up.
girls were applying their mascaras while waiting for the train. maid cafes all around( didn't go in, sadly. next time... :D)
wel the whole day was punctuated with what i wanted to find..
my d80 nikon shop + a vaio laptop.
the small stores sold alot of second hand laptops. figurines.
i walked to i think laox( one of it was closing down. and they sold alot of things for cheap. i bought myself a mouse(microsoft intellimouse 4 for 2500yen)
walked sommore. saw yodobashi. 8 floors of electrical & electronic goods.
every single worker in the stores greeted to noone in particular (irashaimase) and one irashaimase would begat another so it starts like a chain reaction.
next was sofmap.
then aisan. then goodness me i can't remember anything.
bearing in mind this was a monday. so there were not many of those akiba - otakus around i think except for me.
finally in after all searching and comparing, i bought a few items.
nikon d80 body second hand from sofmap for about 79800yen.
vaio sz series for 165k yen. it was light and it was new. well it looked new. but doesn't matter. what matters is what the content is.
then proceeded to get the canon ixus digital 10 for 25k yen. and a nikon 18-200mm lens for about 80k yen i think from yodobashi-akiba.
AND that was the most i've ever spent in a day.
i took dinner at a curry house. can't remember which it was. but i know it was near the KFC in akihabara.
paid about 390 yen. for katsu and curry sauce.
*they dispensed the rice with an automated rice dispenser !!! wow .. i would have loved to have something like that at home so i don't eat too much :P
oh lunch was at another vending quickstop where i had to buy the food ticket from a vending machine and pass the ticket to the person serving inside.
then i passed by don quixote or something like that to get some items for food. i bought some instant noodles, the bowl ramens, and some water.
almost ALL the teas in PET bottles are not sweet. T_T. much to my dismay. i had a very nice game of roulette to choose the drinks that were sweet or a little sweet.
one of the tea had a woody aftertaste. *ugh* took all i could to finish that drink.
*night time at akiba. and a map of the maid cafes around the area.
anyways, first day saw the most spending i was ever gonna make on the trip in one day.
my legs hurt. i had blisters on my feet. bah humbugs. i should have bought better walking shoes.
my notes: almost all the stuffs weren't made in japan.
the nikon was made in thailand.
only the ixus i bought was made in japan. lucky for me both of them had the english menu.
the vaio came with a japanese vista. blah..
okies. went back and saw some anime on telly.
found out that .. anime are shown after 12 midnite ? no ideas why.
slept and prepared for the next day.
oh yes. the girl in the 7-11 near yodobashi-akiba was pretty.
there were not much photos on this day as i didnt take the canon is3 out for photo taking. more interested in actually looking at stuffs.
there's more about akiba later on the second last day when i went back to tokyo. but i'll youtube that up once i sort the rest out.
another note. use of disposable wooden chopsticks are widespread EVERYWHERE !!!
** as usual photos should be self explanatory.

it's actually pretty affordable.
considering there's about 25£ a nite for hotel in tokyo per person.
